Bridging the Gap

Governance, Oversight and Collaboration between Civil Society and Parliament

About the Project

“Bridging the Gap” is a 2-year project co-funded by the European Union and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), implemented through a partnership between FES Botswana and Botswana Centre for Public Integrity (BCPI).

The project aims to strengthen collaboration between Parliament and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to enhance inclusive, transparent, and participatory democratic governance in Botswana. It will focus on three parliamentary committees: the Parliamentary Caucus on Women, the Committee on Governance & Oversight and the Committee on Wildlife, Tourism, Natural Resources and Climate Change.

Project Goals

Strengthen Oversight and Engagement Mechanisms

Conduct diagnostic assessments of existing engagement mechanisms and structures, leading to the co-creation of an Action Plan, which will be implemented through joint taskforces comprising Parliament staff and CSOs

Support Participatory Law-Making

Bring Parliament and civil society together to identify legislation gaps, inform and shape proposed legislation, ensuring that citizen priorities and CSO insights are incorporated.

Lasting Engagement

We are establishing sustainable platforms, including a CSO–Parliament Summit, to support stronger partnership between parliament and CSOs
